Multi Skilled Engineer – £58,000 – Ashford, Kent
Andrews Recruitment Group is recruiting an experienced Multi Skilled Engineer for an established food manufacturing business in Ashford, Kent.
This is a hands-on maintenance engineering position within a busy production environment where equipment reliability, fast fault diagnosis and minimising downtime are essential.
We are looking for an electrically biased Multi Skilled Engineer with a strong mechanical background, ideally working to a 60:40 electrical/mechanical split.
You'll be responsible for keeping production machinery running efficiently, responding to breakdowns, carrying out preventative maintenance and supporting continuous improvement across the site.
At times, you may be the sole engineer on shift, so the ability to work independently, diagnose faults confidently and take ownership of engineering issues is important.
The Role
As a Multi Skilled Engineer, your responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out planned preventative and reactive maintenance across production machinery and equipment.
- Diagnosing and repairing electrical and mechanical breakdowns to minimise production downtime.
- Fault finding on PLC-controlled equipment, SCADA systems, electrical power and control circuits.
- Maintaining conveyors, mechanical drives, motors, pneumatics and associated production equipment.
- Supporting maintenance activities across packing lines, cold stores, refrigeration systems, cooling towers and wastewater treatment equipment.
- Working closely with production supervisors and operators to maintain efficient plant operations.
- Identifying recurring equipment faults and implementing improvements to increase reliability.
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing downtime, waste and energy consumption.
- Completing maintenance documentation, compliance checks and engineering records.
- Ensuring all maintenance activities comply with health and safety procedures.
- Taking ownership of engineering performance when working independently on shift.
What We're Looking For
To be considered for this Multi Skilled Engineer position, you should have:
- A completed UK engineering apprenticeship.
- A minimum of five years' experience in a multi-skilled maintenance engineering role.
- 17th or 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
- Strong electrical fault-finding skills with solid mechanical maintenance experience.
- Experience diagnosing PLC-controlled machinery and electrical control systems.
- Knowledge of motors, drives, conveyors, pneumatics and industrial production equipment.
- A valid MEWP/IPAF licence.
- Good computer literacy and maintenance reporting skills.
- Confidence working independently and managing breakdowns under production pressure.
- Willingness to work rotating early, late and night shifts, Monday to Friday.
Desirable experience:
- Food manufacturing, FMCG or high-volume production environments.
- Refrigeration, cooling systems or wastewater treatment equipment.
- Continuous improvement and plant reliability initiatives.
- SCADA systems and automated production lines.
