Are you an experienced Section Manager, Assistant Quarry Manager or Quarry Manager looking to join one of the UK's leading aggregates businesses?
We're looking for a motivated and safety-focused Section Manager to join our team at our Quarry near Congleton. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of the day-to-day management of a busy quarry operation while developing your career within a business renowned for investing in its people.
Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, you'll be responsible for leading the operational team, driving performance, maintaining the highest standards of health and safety, and ensuring the quarry operates efficiently and compliantly. You'll also act as deputy to the Operations Manager when required, making this an ideal opportunity for someone looking to progress into a senior operational leadership role.
About the Site
We are a well-established quarry, incorporating:
- Sand and gravel extraction
- Dredging operations
- Sand processing
- Washing and classification
- Drying operations
This is a varied and hands-on management role where no two days are the same.
The Role
As Section Manager, you'll play a pivotal role in the successful operation of the quarry, ensuring production targets are met safely, efficiently and in line with environmental and legislative requirements.
Working closely with the Operations Manager and wider support teams, you'll lead operational performance while developing a highly engaged and capable workforce.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the safe and efficient day-to-day operation of the quarry.
- Support the Operations Manager in delivering operational, commercial and safety objectives.
- Act as the senior site manager in the Operations Manager's absence.
- Lead, coach and develop a high-performing operational team.
- Drive a positive culture of health, safety and environmental compliance.
- Ensure compliance with Quarry Regulations, company policies and statutory legislation.
- Manage production planning, stock control and operational performance.
- Monitor and report on key operational KPIs.
- Support budget management and cost control initiatives.
- Identify and deliver continuous improvement opportunities across the operation.
- Oversee planned preventative maintenance programmes alongside engineering teams.
- Produce operational reports and management information.
- Carry out incident investigations and implement corrective actions where required.
- Deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings and workforce communications.
- Maintain competency records and ensure mandatory and developmental training is completed.
About You
We're keen to hear from candidates who have management experience within:
- Quarrying
- Aggregates
- Sand & Gravel
- Heavy Industrial
- Mining
- Extractives
You'll ideally have:
- Previous experience as a Section Manager, Assistant Quarry Manager, Quarry Manager or similar operational leadership role.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, develop and manage operational teams.
- Excellent understanding of quarry operations and production processes.
- Good commercial awareness with experience managing operational performance and budgets.
- Sound knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation.
- Experience producing risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office (SAP experience would be advantageous).
Desirable Qualifications
- Diploma in Quarry Technology or FdSc Extractives Technology
- SHE NVQ Level 4 / QCF Level 6
- IOSH or NEBOSH
- Working knowledge of Quarry Regulations 1999 and Reg 8 appointments
