Quarry Manager – Lead Operations, Drive Performance and Maintain the Highest Safety Standards

Andrews Recruitment Group are one of the UK's leading Aggregate & Building Material recruitment partner and we are currently recruiting an experienced Quarry Manager to lead operations at an established hard rock quarry and asphalt production site near Llanelli, South Wales.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced quarrying professional who understands the demands of running a busy mineral extraction operation, managing people and equipment, maintaining regulatory compliance and delivering consistent production performance.

As Quarry Manager, you will take responsibility for the safe, efficient and commercially effective operation of both the quarry and associated asphalt plant.

We're looking for someone who combines strong technical knowledge with practical leadership. Someone who understands what good quarry management looks like, can make sound operational decisions and knows how to get the best from their team.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, your responsibilities will include:

  • Taking full operational responsibility for quarrying activities and the associated asphalt production plant.
  • Leading, managing and developing site teams to achieve production, safety and operational objectives.
  • Ensuring full compliance with the Quarries Regulations 1999, environmental requirements and company health and safety procedures.
  • Managing operational budgets, controlling expenditure and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Overseeing extraction, crushing, screening, processing and material movement activities.
  • Ensuring production targets are achieved while maintaining product quality and customer delivery requirements.
  • Developing and implementing safe systems of work, risk assessments and standard operating procedures.
  • Monitoring operational KPIs, preparing performance reports and implementing corrective actions where required.
  • Driving continuous improvement across safety, environmental performance, cost control and operational efficiency.

What We're Looking For

To be considered for this Quarry Manager position, you should have proven experience within quarrying, mineral extraction, aggregates production or a closely related heavy industrial environment.

Ideally, you will bring:

  • Previous experience managing quarry operations, production teams or a comparable mineral processing facility.
  • A strong understanding of the Quarries Regulations 1999, ideally with experience suitable for a Regulation 8(1)(c) appointment. Candidates meeting Regulation 8(1)(d) requirements will also be considered.
  • A Diploma in Quarry Technology, FdSc Extractives Technology or a comparable qualification.
  • SHE NVQ Level 4 or QCF Level 6.
  • Experience managing operational budgets, production performance and cost improvement initiatives.
  • Experience managing maintenance requirements and improving equipment reliability.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office applications, with SAP experience advantageous.
  • IOSH or NEBOSH qualifications would be beneficial.

You should be a visible, hands-on leader who is comfortable making decisions, challenging unsafe practices and maintaining high standards across a demanding operational environment.

What's on Offer?

  • Excellent salary package, dependent on experience.
  • Performance-related bonus.
  • Comprehensive company benefits.
  • Permanent position within a major UK aggregates and building materials business.
  • Opportunity to take ownership of an established quarry and asphalt operation.
  • Support from an experienced regional operations team.
  • Long-term career development and progression opportunities.

Location

Applicants should be comfortable travelling to the site regularly and working within an operational quarry environment.
