Role Overview
Looking to strengthen its operational management structure through the appointment of an experienced Compliance & Health and Safety Manager.
This is a broad, hands-on position supporting the business across health and safety, quality assurance, BSI compliance, transport-related requirements and operational procedures.
The successful candidate will work closely with senior management and operational teams to ensure that appropriate systems, standards and processes are in place, maintained and continually improved.
The role will suit someone who is comfortable operating both strategically and practically, taking ownership of compliance matters while remaining closely involved with day-to-day operations.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety
• Support the development and implementation of health and safety policies, procedures and safe systems of work.
• Review risk assessments, method statements and operational safety documentation.
• Undertake site inspections and identify opportunities to improve working practices.
• Support incident reporting, investigations and corrective actions.
• Work with operational teams to promote a practical, positive safety culture.
Quality & BSI Compliance
• Support the maintenance and development of relevant quality management systems and BSI-related requirements.
• Coordinate compliance documentation, records and audit preparation.
• Assist with internal and external audits, ensuring corrective actions are completed.
• Review operational processes to support consistent standards and continuous improvement.
• Liaise with external assessors, certification bodies and relevant stakeholders where required.
Transport & Operational Compliance
• Support management in maintaining appropriate transport-related compliance procedures.
• Assist with vehicle, driver and operational documentation, working alongside those responsible for fleet and transport.
• Review relevant processes to help ensure legal and company requirements are met.
• Identify compliance risks and recommend practical improvements.
Business Support & Continuous Improvement
• Work directly with the Director and operational management team to identify areas requiring greater structure or oversight.
• Develop straightforward systems that improve accountability, documentation and operational consistency.
• Provide management with updates on compliance performance, outstanding actions and emerging risks.
• Support the business as its operational requirements develop.
What Success Would Look Like
First 3 Months
• Build a clear understanding of the business, its operations and existing procedures.
• Review current health and safety, quality and transport compliance arrangements.
• Identify immediate priorities and agree an improvement plan with management.
Months 3–6
• Implement agreed improvements to documentation, reporting and working practices.
• Establish a consistent approach to inspections, audits and compliance follow-up.
• Strengthen communication between management and operational teams.
Months 6–12
• Demonstrate measurable improvements in compliance management and audit readiness.
• Ensure key procedures are documented, understood and consistently followed.
• Help establish a sustainable compliance framework that supports the company's growth.
The Opportunity
This is an opportunity to take on a varied position with genuine influence over how the business operates.
Rather than being restricted to a narrow compliance function, the successful candidate will work closely with senior management, helping to shape procedures, improve standards and introduce practical improvements across the organisation.
Please note: This is an initial outline of the proposed position, intended to support further discussions. The final scope, reporting arrangements and responsibilities will be agreed with RS Concrete before appointment.
