Shift Maintenance Fitter

Location: Thurrock, Essex
Salary: Excellent Salary + Bonus + Benefits
Hours: 42 hours per week

Are you an experienced Shift Maintenance Fitter with a strong mechanical maintenance background within manufacturing, aggregates, concrete, quarrying, recycling, heavy industry or a similar production environment?

We are recruiting for a Shift Maintenance Fitter to join a busy heavy manufacturing site in Essex, supporting the safe and reliable operation of production machinery through planned, preventative and reactive maintenance.

This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically skilled engineer or fitter who is confident working independently, diagnosing mechanical faults and completing repairs across a range of industrial plant and production equipment.

The Role

As a Shift Maintenance Fitter, you will be responsible for:

  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance across production machinery
  • Responding to mechanical breakdowns and reactive maintenance requirements
  • Maintaining and replacing bearings, shafts, rollers and other mechanical components
  • Diagnosing faults and completing effective mechanical repairs
  • Working with hand tools, bearing presses and specialist fitting equipment
  • Supporting plant reliability and reducing production downtime
  • Carrying out general mechanical maintenance across the manufacturing facility
  • Supporting welding, fabrication and pipefitting activities where required


What We’re Looking For

The successful Shift Maintenance Fitter will ideally have:

  • Previous mechanical maintenance experience within manufacturing or heavy industry
  • Experience working with bearings, shafts, rollers, conveyors or similar machinery
  • Experience completing both planned and reactive maintenance
  • Good mechanical fault-finding ability
  • Confidence working independently in a production environment
  • Experience using maintenance management or CMMS systems
  • A strong approach to health, safety and housekeeping
  • Welding and/or pipefitting experience would be advantageous
  • IOSH training would also be beneficial


Candidates from backgrounds including concrete, aggregates, quarrying, cement, brick, block manufacturing, asphalt, recycling, waste, steel, heavy manufacturing and industrial production would be particularly relevant.
