Role Overview

Mechanical Maintenance Fitter

Shrewsbury

Competitive Salary + Overtime + Bonus + Benefits

Permanent | Rotating Days & Nights

We are recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Fitter / Plant Fitter to join a major heavy industrial production site near Shrewsbury.

This is a hands-on maintenance role within a working quarry and crushing environment. The priority is finding someone who is comfortable maintaining heavy plant, responding to breakdowns and keeping production equipment operational.

Previous quarry or aggregates experience would be highly desirable, although candidates from other heavy industrial, processing, manufacturing, recycling, steel, cement, asphalt or materials-handling environments will also be considered.

The Role

You will work across both reactive and planned maintenance activities.

During the day shift, the focus is heavily on supporting live production and crushing operations. This can include breakdown response, mechanical repairs, plant modifications, workshop activities and general engineering support required to keep the site operational.

The night shift is more heavily focused on planned preventative maintenance, working from the handover provided by the day team and completing maintenance activity before the next production period.

Typical responsibilities will include:

  • Responding to mechanical breakdowns across production and processing equipment
  • Planned and preventative maintenance
  • Maintaining conveyors, bearings, shafts, gearboxes, drive systems, pumps and associated plant
  • Supporting crushers, screens and other materials-processing equipment
  • Mechanical fault finding and defect identification
  • Removing and replacing bearings, shafts, rollers and mechanical components
  • Carrying out plant modifications and improvement work
  • Fabrication and welding activities
  • Producing or modifying bespoke components, guards, brackets and other parts where required
  • Using workshop equipment including cutting and fabrication machinery

What We’re Looking For

The number-one requirement is a strong hands-on mechanical maintenance background.

You could currently be working as a:

Mechanical Fitter, Plant Fitter, Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, Maintenance Technician, Heavy Plant Fitter, Quarry Fitter, Industrial Fitter or Multi-Skilled Engineer with a strong mechanical bias.

Ideally you will have:

  • At least 3 years' practical mechanical maintenance experience
  • Experience within quarrying, aggregates or another heavy industrial environment
  • Strong mechanical fault-finding capability
  • Experience with conveyors, bearings, gearboxes, shafts and drive systems
  • Confidence responding to production breakdowns
  • A recognised engineering apprenticeship or equivalent practical training
  • Fabrication experience is a significant advantage.

The business is particularly interested in candidates who can do more than basic welding and are comfortable with areas such as:

  • Fabrication of bespoke parts
  • Sheet metal cutting and preparation
  • Plasma cutting
  • General workshop fabrication

Most importantly, you must be comfortable working in a genuine quarry environment. This is a practical, physical production site involving crushing equipment, heavy plant, noise, dust and industrial maintenance conditions.

Shift Pattern

The current rota operates on a weekly rotation:

Days: 6:00am – 3:30pm

Nights: 3:00pm – 1:30am

Monday to Friday

The night shift arrangement is currently under review.

Overtime is available and is expected as part of supporting site operations.
