Role Overview

HGV & Plant Mechanic

West London
£45,000 – £52,000 + Overtime
Permanent | Full-Time

Work on Proper Kit. Keep a Busy Operation Moving.

We’re recruiting an experienced HGV & Plant Mechanic to join a busy construction materials and logistics operation in West London.

This isn’t a workshop role where you’ll spend every day working on the same type of vehicle.

You’ll be supporting a mixed operational fleet and working around a live industrial site, carrying out maintenance, repairs and fault finding across HGVs, commercial vehicles and mobile plant.

The business operates in a demanding environment where vehicle and plant availability directly affects production and customer deliveries, so they need somebody practical, reliable and comfortable getting stuck into problems.

If you’re currently working as an HGV Technician, HGV Fitter, Plant Fitter, Mobile Plant Engineer or Heavy Vehicle Mechanic and want a varied position where your mechanical knowledge is genuinely useful, this is worth a conversation.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll help keep the site’s vehicles and plant safe, reliable and available for operation.

Typical work will include:

  • Servicing and maintaining HGVs and commercial vehicles
  • Mechanical repairs and reactive breakdown work
  • Fault finding and diagnostics
  • Preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing
  • Inspection of vehicles and plant
  • Repair and replacement of mechanical components
  • Supporting maintenance across mobile plant and site equipment
  • Identifying developing faults before they result in breakdowns
  • Working with operational teams to minimise vehicle and plant downtime
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance and inspection records
  • Keeping workshop and maintenance areas safe and organised
  • Working in accordance with Health & Safety and site procedures

The exact workload will vary depending on what needs attention, so this will suit somebody who enjoys variety and practical problem-solving.

What We’re Looking For

We’re interested in experienced mechanics coming from backgrounds such as:

  • HGV maintenance
  • Commercial vehicle maintenance
  • Construction plant
  • Quarry or aggregates equipment
  • Concrete / ready-mix operations
  • Waste and recycling fleets
  • Heavy industrial plant
  • Agricultural machinery
  • Mobile plant
  • Fleet maintenance

Ideally, you’ll bring:

  • Strong hands-on mechanical maintenance experience
  • HGV and/or heavy vehicle experience
  • Good mechanical fault-finding ability
  • Experience carrying out servicing and preventative maintenance
  • Confidence working around heavy vehicles and machinery
  • Ability to diagnose faults and complete repairs independently
  • Strong Health & Safety awareness
  • A practical and dependable approach

Formal HGV, vehicle maintenance or plant engineering qualifications would be advantageous.

Experience across both HGVs and mobile plant would be particularly attractive, although strong experience in either area could be considered.

Why Consider It?

This is a stable, permanent opportunity within an established industrial operation where maintenance is genuinely important to the performance of the business.

You’ll get:

  • £45,000–£52,000 basic salary depending on experience
  • Overtime opportunities
  • Permanent employment
  • Varied mechanical work rather than repetitive servicing
  • Exposure to both fleet and plant equipment
  • A busy operational environment where your work has an immediate impact
  • Long-term opportunity within an established business
