Mechanical Fitter

We are looking for a highly skilled Mechanical Fitter to join our maintenance team, ensuring that our assets and equipment operate at maximum efficiency. This is a key role in maintaining and optimising our facilities, supporting site operations, and ensuring compliance with industry and safety standards.This position requires an individual who is proactive, safety-conscious, and experienced in both reactive and planned maintenance. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability of plant operations, minimising downtime, and contributing to the overall success of the business.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out reactive, corrective, and proactive maintenance to ensure smooth plant operations.

• Promote and enforce health and safety standards across all depot operations, ensuring compliance with company policies.

• Conduct fault diagnosis and repairs on mechanical equipment and plant machinery.

• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance to maintain equipment capacity and value, reducing the risk of breakdowns.

• Attend and resolve plant breakdowns in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring temporary fixes are followed by permanent solutions.

• Maintain a clean, safe, and hazard-free working environment.

• Keep detailed and accurate records of maintenance activities and equipment performance.

• Support and train operatives in inspection and maintenance tasks, ensuring plant availability through a structured PPM/PMR scheme.

• Identify and report plant and equipment defects, ensuring compliance with ISO 19001 quality standards.

• Maintain up-to-date stores, ensuring critical spare parts are always available to support continuous operations.

• Assist in the installation, modification, and commissioning of new equipment and machinery.

• Comply with company health, safety, and environmental policies, proactively highlighting potential issues.

• Undertake additional duties and ad hoc projects as required by the business.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will be an experienced and adaptable Mechanical Fitter with a strong background in industrial maintenance. You should have excellent technical knowledge, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

Essential Skills and Experience:

• Proven experience in mechanical maintenance within a production, manufacturing, or industrial environment.

• Strong knowledge of mechanical fault diagnosis and troubleshooting.

• Experience in preventive and predictive maintenance methodologies.

• Expertise in working with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

• Proficiency in welding, fabrication

• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.

• Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.

• Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations.

• Excellent problem-solving abilities and the capacity to conduct risk assessments.

• Effective communication and teamwork skills.

• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

• Knowledge of spare parts management and maintaining a well-organised stores inventory.

Desirable Skills:

• Experience in installation and commissioning of new equipment.

• Familiarity with CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management Systems).

• Electrical knowledge or experience working alongside electrical engineers.

• Formal training or certifications in mechanical fitting, such as NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
